TERMS OF SERVICE

This website, marathonfirerescue.org, is owned and operated by the Marathon Fire Rescue Benevolent Association, Inc. (“the Association,” “we,” “us”). By using this site you agree to the following terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Use of this site

You may use this site for lawful purposes only. You may not attempt to interfere with the site’s operation, gain unauthorized access to any part of it, or use it to harass, defraud, or harm others. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice.

Donations and payments

Donations, sponsorship payments, tournament registrations, and merchandise purchases made through this site are processed by Stripe. By making a payment you agree to Stripe’s terms of service. All donations are voluntary and non-refundable unless required by law. Sponsorship and registration refunds, if any, are governed by the terms stated on the relevant page or packet at the time of purchase. Merchandise returns are handled case by case — contact us at [email protected].

Tax deductibility

The Association is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. A receipt is emailed for every online gift. Tournament entry fees, merchandise purchases, and the fair-market value of sponsorship benefits (such as banquet tickets and apparel) may not be fully deductible; consult your tax advisor.

Content and ownership

All content on this site — text, photos, logos, graphics, and design — belongs to the Association or is used with permission. The Marathon Fire Rescue name, badge, and department imagery are used with the department’s cooperation and may not be reproduced without written permission. You may share links to our pages and post our public content on social media with credit; you may not sell, alter, or present our materials as your own.

Photos taken at our events

By attending Association events, including the Wahoo Tournament, CPR classes, and the awards banquet, you consent to being photographed or filmed and to the Association’s use of those images on this site, on social media, and in printed materials to promote our mission. If you’d like a specific photo of yourself or your child removed, email us and we will take it down.

Links to other sites

This site links to third-party sites, including Stripe, Facebook, sponsor websites, and news outlets. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

Limitation of liability

This site is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Association is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, including technical errors, interruptions, or unauthorized access to your data by third parties.

Indemnification

You agree to hold the Association, its officers, volunteers, and members harmless from any claims arising from your misuse of this site or violation of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and the United States. Any dispute will be heard in Monroe County, Florida.

Changes

We may update these terms at any time. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when. Continued use of the site means you accept the current version.

PRIVACY POLICY

We are a small local nonprofit, and we collect only what we need to run the Association and stay in touch with the people who support it. This policy explains what that is.

Information you give us

• Contact and sponsor forms — name, business, email, phone, and your message.
• Newsletter signup — name and email.
• Donations and payments — name, email, billing address, and payment details. Payment details are collected and stored by Stripe, not by us. We never see or store your full card number.
• Tournament registration — captain and angler names, boat name, contact information, and emergency contacts.
• CPR class booking — name, email, phone, and class selection.
• Merchandise orders — name, email, shipping address, and order details.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect basic technical data when you visit: browser type, device, approximate location from your IP address, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site. We use standard analytics tools for this. It helps us understand what visitors find useful; it is not used to identify you personally.

How we use it

• To process donations, payments, registrations, and orders, and send receipts
• To answer your questions and follow up on sponsorship inquiries
• To send news about the tournament, CPR classes, and where the money went — only if you signed up, and you can unsubscribe with one click in any email
• To recognize sponsors and donors publicly, when you’ve agreed to it
• To run and improve this website

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that make the site work:

• Stripe for payment processing
• Our email service for newsletters and receipts
• Our web host and analytics provider

These providers may only use your information to provide their service to us. We may also share information if required by law. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Sponsor and donor recognition

Sponsor business names and logos appear on this site, on tournament materials, and on apparel as part of the sponsorship. Individual donors are not listed publicly unless you tell us you’d like to be recognized.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for basic functionality (like remembering a form you started) and for analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information online. Junior anglers are registered by a parent or guardian.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any message
• Email us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you
• Ask us to remove a photo of you or your child from the site or our social media

Keeping it safe

Payments are handled entirely by Stripe over encrypted connections. Form submissions are stored in our website and email systems with access limited to Association officers who need it.

ACCESSIBILITY

We want everyone in our community to be able to use this site, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

What we’ve done

• Clear headings and a consistent page structure
• Text alternatives for images
• Sufficient color contrast for text and buttons
• Keyboard-accessible menus, forms, and links
• Text that resizes without breaking the layout

Still working on it

Some older photos and third-party content (such as embedded videos, the Stripe checkout, and news articles we link to) may not fully meet these standards. We review the site regularly and fix problems as we find them.
